Inspired by the sea

Based in Los Angeles, Solène Quiguer is a French ceramicist and designer whose practice explores the interplay of form, color, and imagination. After graduating from École Camondo in Paris with a Master’s degree in Interior and Product Design, she moved to Copenhagen to deepen her ceramic practice and refine her approach to form and material. In 2022, she relocated to Los Angeles, where she continues to develop a practice spanning ceramics and painting. Drawn to organic shapes and a vibrant use of color, Solène’s work brings together expressive, handcrafted forms and graphic compositions. Her inspiration often begins with the world around her, particularly the overlooked details of everyday life: architectural details of the streets she walks through, graphic design found on food labels and flyers, and the shapes of leaves from the nature that surrounds her. These visual references enter into a dialogue with the more organic forms of the sea, whose fluidity and natural textures inform her approach to ceramics. Recurring motifs throughout her practice include the eye and geometric shapes, appearing across both her paintings and ceramic works as playful graphic elements and quiet invitations to connect. Through color, shape, and unexpected details, her pieces evoke a sense of whimsical storytelling, inviting curiosity, play, and imagination. Since moving to Los Angeles, Solène has focused particularly on sculptural ceramic lamps, blending functionality with expressive forms. Her work celebrates the beauty of objects that feel at once familiar and dreamlike, creating a space where everyday design meets art.
